Kitsilano

Is there a neighbourhood in your city that you would love to live in? Well, in Vancouver, my favourite neighbourhood is Kitsilano.

Neighboured on the north by English Bay and False Creek, this neighbourhood of Vancouver is beautiful. It has well kept houses that are full of character and many restaurants, cafes and pubs. It is very well connected by public transit and has beautiful views of the north shore mountains. The beaches are beautiful, the people are fun and young.

The general atmosphere is that of trendy hippies. The grocery stores carry mostly organic produce. There are an abnormal number of Yoga practitioners and people use cycles a lot! It is a very left wing, liberal, sort of area.

Kitsilano has this air of idealism that I like. Yes, it is pretentious, but if you can look over its 'I am healthier and more concerned about the environment than you are' attitude, then it is really a beautiful part of the city. It has a lot of character; something that most of Vancouver seems to lack. And it has a lot of parks.

There is always something to do in Kits. I used to live near Kitsilano, and some years ago that was one of the only areas in Vancouver that I knew well. But now I live about half an hour away from it, and everytime I visit it I feel a yearning to move back.

My Shenanigans

I haven't posted for a couple of weeks. Well, a lot has been happening and I've been quite busy. I was looking for a new apartment to rent. I wanted a two bedroom place. That was quite a chore...looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in Vancouver that is within walking distance of a SkyTrain, within a decent budget and not in an old building is, well, hard! But I found a great place for $100 over my budget! I am really excited to move in .

I went on a weekend trip to a beautiful region of British Columbia. There is something to be said about a place where all you can see is trees until the horizon. British Columbia is absolutely beautiful.

I have also been busy doing my research work. I want to get as much work done just now because I have family visiting me for most of July. I am also taking a course this semester, which is nice, but is another "thing" to do. I want to get started with it's project too, so that I can finish it sooner rather than later!

Then I've been going to the gym, once a week. I am glad I got that into a routine of sorts.

Then I bought flight tickets back home and to Copenhagen for the Christmas break! I am excited about that too!

I carried two IKEA chairs for about a kilometer at 12:30am on a Friday night, recently. And I filed, refiled and will soon be re-refiling my 2006 taxes! Don't ask ... end result is good though. I get more tax credits than expected :D A lot of tax work has been going on recently, and I must say, I enjoy being part of this tax process. I got a well informed agent to file it for me (it is way too complicated and I need it all to be correct), but I like how we can try using credits from here and there and squeeze every last cent out of my oweings! If I had the patience for number crunching and form filling, I'd be a tax lawyer.

An evening in front of the TV with today's music

Today, after about a year, I sat in front of the TV all evening long with the music channel on! I was editing my photos, sending emails out, basically doing nothing important. I haven't spent an evening like this in a long time...! Doing it today was quite nostalgic. I used to do this when I was a kid...watch Channel [V] (the music channel we used to get back home). Its funny how not much has changed in music they show on TV. I've never been very fussy with my music really. Anything with a beat, I'll like.

Though now I think lyrics are starting to matter a bit more to me.

There is this new song by Usher called "Love in this Club". I don't know, but it feels like he really didn't know what else to sing about. I think he had to come up with a song in a rush...as if he had a very short deadline to meet. He probably wasted his time and suddenly realized that he had 24 hours to come up with a song. I think his thought process was something like this when he was coming up with the song:

"Hmm, it has to be something sexy because sex sells. And people should be able to dance to it, because I am known for my dance-able songs. WAIT FOR IT, WAIT FOR IT....BINGO! Have sex in a club!!!" And then his masterstroke (which he was very proud of himself for coming up) was "Hey, wait a sec. Love and Club rhyme! This is awesome. Make Love ... in a Club!!"

A song I do really like right now is the new Coldplay song , Violet Hills. Here it is.
